Overview
As a Water Hygiene Technician, you will be responsible for carrying out a range of essential water hygiene tasks to ensure our clients\' water systems remain safe and compliant with current legislation (Legionella Control). The primary focus of this role is the cleaning and disinfection of cold water storage tanks and cooling towers, while also undertaking other key monitoring and maintenance duties.
Responsibilities
- Cleaning and disinfection: Carry out cleaning and chlorination of cold water storage tanks and cooling towers in accordance with ACOP L8 and HSG274 guidelines.
- Inspections and monitoring: Conduct routine inspections of water systems, including cold water storage tanks, to check for cleanliness and condition.
- Water sampling and testing: Collect water samples for laboratory analysis and perform on-site testing for water quality parameters.
- Legionella control: Perform temperature monitoring of hot and cold water systems to manage the risk of legionella proliferation.
- Maintenance: Conduct showerhead descaling and servicing of Thermostatic Mixing Valves (TMVs).
- Remedial works: Assist with remedial plumbing tasks where necessary to address system defects.
- Reporting: Accurately complete and maintain work reports.
- Health and Safety: Ensure all work is carried out in line with health and safety regulations, particularly regarding the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH).
Skills and Qualifications
- Driving Licence: A full UK driving licence is essential for this field-based role.
- Communication: Excellent communication and customer-facing skills.
- Independence: Ability to work independently and manage your own workload and schedule.
- Safety: A commitment to health and safety procedures, particularly for working in confined spaces and with chemicals.
- IT skills: Computer literate for completing digital reports and managing your schedule.
- Some experience in a water hygiene or plumbing-related role, with experience in tank and cooling tower cleaning and disinfection.
- An understanding of relevant water hygiene regulations, including ACOP L8 and HSG274.
- Familiarity with the operation of domestic and commercial water systems.
- CSR Card and Confined Space Entry training - training for the right candidate can be provided.
