Job description

As a Water Technician within our Maidstone branch, you will work across NHS and mental health buildings, primarily visiting NHS sites to ensure water compliance with Legionella legislation and regulations. Mears Kent FM Branch operates over two NHS Trusts - KCHFT & KMPT. The role involves working in active ward settings, including mental health wards.

Main Responsibilities:
  1. Perform compliant ACOP L8 4TH Edition 2013 Legionella monitoring, including monthly temperature checks, quarterly showerhead cleaning and descaling, visual inspections of cold water storage tanks, calorifier cleaning, inspection, and purging.
  2. Conduct basic building and system surveys related to water compliance.
  3. Collect potable water samples for Legionella/TVC testing when applicable.
  4. Clean and disinfect cold-water storage tanks (training provided).
  5. Service and maintain thermostatic mixing valves.
  6. Maintain and record data in site logbooks.
  7. Produce job reports, certificates, and simple line diagrams.
  8. Engage with customers and provide feedback.
  9. Adhere to Mears Group Policies, Processes, and Systems at all times.
  10. Comply with ISO9001, 14001, and 18001 standards.
  11. Support continuous improvement within the Water Hygiene function.
  12. Operate Mears IT systems as required.
Role Criteria:
  1. Experience working to current industry standards.
  2. Knowledge of domestic and commercial water systems, layout, and operation.
  3. Ability to use industry-related tablet software.
  4. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  5. Organized, logical, and with a strong work ethic.
  6. Experience in social housing or facilities management environments.
  7. Full UK driving license.

All roles require entitlement to work in the UK; Mears does not offer visa sponsorship.

To drive a Mears vehicle, candidates must be over 21, have held their license for over 3 months, and have fewer than 9 points.

All roles are subject to DBS/Security checks prior to employment.
