Sodexo is seeking a Water Hygiene Team Leader in Gateshead to lead the water safety and Legionella control programme across university estate. You will oversee day-to-day activities, ensuring compliance, reporting, and continuous improvement while coordinating with contractors and internal teams.

The role requires leadership experience, strong knowledge of ACOP L8/HSG274, and excellent stakeholder communication. A competitive package and excellent benefits accompany the position.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years' experience in water hygiene or Legionella control.
• Strong knowledge of ACOP L8 and HSG274.
• Experience managing compliance records and contractor performance.
• Experience supervising or leading teams.
• Legionella / Water Hygiene qualification.
• IOSH Managing Safely (or equivalent).
• Full UK Driving Licence.
• Strong IT skills including Microsoft Office and CAFM/compliance systems.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Responsabilités

• Plan flushing programmes, temperature monitoring, inspections and maintenance activities.
• Review records and drive timely corrective actions.

• Supervise Water Hygiene personnel and ensure competence.
• Manage contractors, review RAMS, monitor service delivery.
• Conduct compliance audits and produce reports and recommendations.
• Maintain auditable compliance documentation and records.

• Build relationships with University stakeholders and residents.

We are looking for a Water Hygiene Team Leader to join our Technical Services team, supporting the delivery of the University's Water Safety and Legionella Control Programme across a large student accommodation estate.

About the Role

As Water Hygiene Team Leader, you will oversee the day-to-day delivery of water safety and Legionella control activities across the estate. Working closely with operational teams, contractors and stakeholders, you will ensure all monitoring, inspections, sampling and remedial works are completed safely, effectively and in line with legislative requirements.

You will provide leadership and technical expertise to ensure compliance with ACOP L8, HSG274 and site-specific Water Safety Plans, while driving high standards of performance, record keeping and continuous improvement.

• Lead the delivery of the Water Safety and Legionella Control Programme across multiple sites.
• Plan and oversee flushing programmes, temperature monitoring, inspections, sampling and maintenance activities.
• Review compliance records, identify trends and ensure corrective actions are completed within agreed timescales.
• Coordinate Legionella and microbiological sampling programmes with specialist contractors and laboratories.
• Investigate adverse results and implement proportionate control measures and corrective actions.
• Supervise, support and develop Water Hygiene personnel, ensuring competence and compliance.
• Manage specialist contractors, review RAMS and monitor service delivery against KPIs.
• Conduct compliance audits and inspections, producing clear reports and recommendations.
• Maintain accurate and auditable compliance documentation and records.
• Support incident investigations, emergency responses and business continuity arrangements.
• Build strong relationships with University stakeholders, residents and operational teams.

What We’re Looking For

Essential Experience & Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years' experience within water hygiene, Legionella control or water safety management.
• Strong knowledge of ACOP L8, HSG274 and Legionella control programmes.
• Experience managing compliance records, planned programmes and contractor performance.
• Previous experience supervising or leading teams.
• Legionella Management or Water Hygiene qualification.
• IOSH Managing Safely (or equivalent).
• Full UK Driving Licence.
• Strong IT skills including Microsoft Office and CAFM/compliance systems.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

Desirable

• NEBOSH General Certificate.
• Plumbing or Mechanical Engineering qualification.
• Water Management Society membership.
• Legionella Risk Assessment qualification.
• Experience working across multi-site property portfolios.
