Job summary

OCS UK & Ireland is seeking a Water Hygiene Engineer to inspect and maintain hot and cold-water systems across client sites. You will perform sampling, temperature monitoring and remedial actions to ensure compliance with UK water hygiene standards.

A valid UK driving licence and willingness to cover flexible hours are essential. You will liaise with clients to explain findings and recommendations, ensuring understanding of obligations under HSG274 Part 2.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Water Hygiene Engineer or similar role.
• Strong knowledge of HSG274 Part 2, L8 ACOP, and UK water regulations.
• Ability to conduct water sampling, temperature monitoring and basic water quality testing.
• Practical skills in cleaning, disinfection and maintenance of water systems.

Responsibilities

• Conduct routine inspections, cleaning and disinfection of hot and cold-water systems, including storage tanks and pipework.
• Perform temperature checks to ensure Legionella risk is minimised (hot >50°C, cold <20°C).
• Carry out water sampling, testing and analysis for bacterial contamination, including Legionella.
• Assist in Legionella risk assessments and implement control measures as per HSG274 Part 2.
• Maintain records and reports for audits and compliance.
• Carry out remedial actions (descaling, flushing, chlorination) and install/maintain water system components.
• Respond to emergency callouts and provide clear client communication about findings.
