Job Purpose
The primary objective of this role is to uphold the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999. This entails conducting thorough inspections of primarily non-household premises to ensure adherence to these regulations, both proactively and reactively, based on the contamination risk to the water distribution network. Role holders are recognised as subject matter experts in regulatory compliance and enforcement, playing a pivotal role in stakeholder engagement and education.
Accountabilities & Responsibilities
- Ensuring drinking water supplies are not wasted, misused, or contaminated. This includes preventing erroneous measurement and contamination of water supplies in premises connected to the company's water distribution network.
- Conducting technical inspections of plumbing installations and water usage systems to assess compliance with the Water Fittings Regulations (WFR). This involves both planned (cyclic) and unplanned (reactive) inspections.
- Effectively communicating with customers about areas of non-compliance and the actions required to rectify these issues. Ensuring customers understand priority actions and agreed timescales for rectification.
- Managing and scheduling appointments for various types of inspections and audits, including cyclic, reactive, water quality inspections, and audits. Prioritising tasks accordingly.
- Assisting the Water Fittings Manager and Water Fittings, Technical Support Officers in enforcement actions that lead to prosecutions.
- Acting as subject matter experts on the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations. This includes:
- Conducting root cause analysis of water quality complaints related to water fittings installations.
- Providing technical information for regulatory reports.
- Reviewing complex technical drawings for compliance with WFR.
- Offering advice for queries related to the regulations.
- Engaging with external stakeholders and customers to promote the regulations through educational guidance, briefings, and visits. This includes interactions with developers, builders, universities, colleges, and local authorities.
- Reporting reliable, accurate, and complete data related to area activity and regulatory performance.
Technical Skills & Experience
- Extensive knowledge and application of the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999.
- Excellent communication skills to present complex information clearly and comprehensively to different audiences.
- Strong resilience, negotiation, and influencing skills to ensure customer compliance and resolve infringements.
- Ability to manage and prioritise own workload, handle multiple priorities with changing deadlines, and work independently.
- Planning and organising site visits and balancing workload effectively.
- Good knowledge and use of company IT systems and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

Qualifications
Essential Qualifications
- Plumbing accreditation: City and Guilds or equivalent NVQ level.
Desirable
- Experience in domestic or commercial plumbing, gas fitting, or heating engineering.
