Salary: Competitive pay rate

Contract: Full-time, permanent

Working hours: 37.5 hours - 7.30am-3.30pm, Mon to Fri

Have you got what it takes to be a hospital waste porter: prefer to be on the move at work; comfortable in a healthcare environment (it's not for everyone); reliable and helpful? From cardboard to clinical waste and everything in between, we provide waste management and recycling services for Northwick Park Hospital, where you'll be based - although you'll need to be flexible because you might be asked to work at Ealing Hospital and Central Middlesex Hospital from time to time.

What You'll Be Doing As Waste Porter

You'll get to know the hospital well because your main job will be collecting and transporting waste safely around the site.

All the different waste types need to be segregated and put in the right disposal areas, bulky waste moved to where it needs to go and cardboard baled, all the while following health and safety procedures. Unloading and loading lorries, helping to keep the site clean and tidy, collecting dirty linen cages, replacing full bins with empty ones and using a compactor – a clever machine that compresses waste to make it smaller – are all part of the job.

It's physical work and you'll be on your feet, but you'll be supported by the other waste porters and team leader on your shift.

What You'll Need

You're good with words and numbers and are able to communicate clearly in English. We're also looking for a basic understanding of health and safety (including COSHH and infection control, ideally), and knowledge of NHS practices and policies, but we'll give you all the training you need.
