Job summary

Grundon Waste Management Ltd in Knowl Hill is seeking a hands-on Waste Operative to join our team. From November to March you’ll focus on waste processing and weighbridge operations, moving to Yard Labourer/Driver’s Mate from April to October.

You’ll work outdoors in all weather, operate basic machinery, and support the depot’s safe, efficient operation. A full UK driving licence is essential, and forklift training can be provided if needed.

Qualifications

• Basic IT skills with training on weighbridge systems.
• Full, valid UK driving licence; forklift training can be provided.
• Practical, hands-on approach and ability to work outdoors in all weather.

Responsibilities

• Receive, inspect, weigh and process incoming waste using weighbridge.
• Operate bin washing and pressure washing equipment and perform basic repairs.
• Keep containers and yards tidy and safe; assist with events and deliveries.
• Support winter gritting and daily depot operations as needed.

At Grundon, we are looking for a hands on, enthusiastic team player to join our team in Knowl Hill! You will enjoy a varied role, working as a Waste Operative from November to March and switching to Yard Labourer / Driver’s Mate from April to October.

By joining Grundon, your contributions will make a real difference as we work together by showing the world that there is more to waste than it seems.

Reporting into the Waste Facility Manager and Transport Manager, you will play an important role in supporting our mission of leaving a better planet for future generations. You will support the safe and efficient operation of the Clinical Waste Facility, including waste processing and operating equipment, while assisting the Special Events team with yard duties, cleaning and preparing containers for customer events.

What will you do

• Receive, inspect, weigh and process incoming waste, using our weighbridge system to keep records accurate and up to date.
• Operate bin washing and pressure washing equipment and carry out basic repairs.
• Ensure bins are clean and ready for their next customer.
• Carry out weekly stock checks of bins and containers, reporting any shortages to the office.
• Keep the event container yard tidy and safe, ensuring containers are emptied on time and wash-down areas stay clear.
• Help wash vehicles and load or unload bins onto collection and delivery vehicles.
• Keep an eye on site conditions and help with winter gritting when needed.

About you

• Basic IT skills, with full training provided on weighbridge systems.
• A forklift truck licence is desirable, although training can be provided.
• Ability to operate machinery and mobile plant safely and competently.
• A practical, hands-on approach with basic DIY skills.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently when required.
• Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Flexibility to work varied hours and occasional overtime to support the safe and efficient operation of the depot.
• A basic understanding of health and safety principles.
• A full, valid driving licence is essential. Access to your own transport is desirable due to the depot’s location.
