Job summary

Grundon in Bristol is seeking a dedicated HGV Driver (Class 2) to join our Operations team. You will deliver waste collection and disposal services across multiple locations, ensuring safety and legality while maintaining high service levels for colleagues and customers.

The role requires a valid LGV Class 2 licence with DQC and tachograph card, plus a proactive, team-focused attitude. We offer a supportive workplace, opportunities for growth, and competitive pay with benefits.

Qualifications

• Valid LGV Class 2 licence with DQC and tachograph card.
• Airside Pass and ADR certification desirable.
• Experience with Rolonof, skips, FEL and Waste wheeler vehicles preferred.
• Map reading and good direction skills; team-oriented and proactive.
• Flexible with hours and willing to work overtime when required.

Responsibilities

• Carry out daily vehicle checks, defect reports, and escalation as needed.
• Comply with tachograph rules, Working Time Directive, and H&S requirements.
• Report incidents, near misses, contaminated bins, and non-conforming waste with proper paperwork.
• Maintain vehicles to a high standard, including cleanliness and wheel torque checks.
• Provide excellent service to colleagues and customers with reliability and timekeeping.
• Be flexible for overtime to meet depot needs and company policies.

Reporting to the Depot Operations Manager, you will play a vital role in supporting our mission by safely and efficiently delivering effective waste collection and disposal services across multiple locations, ensuring full compliance with health and safety requirements while protecting the wellbeing of your crew, yourself, and the public.

What will you do

• Carry out daily vehicle checks, complete defect/damage reports, and follow the correct escalation process.
• Comply with tachograph legislation, Working Time Directive, and all company SOPs, risk assessments, and H&S requirements (including PPE).
• Report incidents, near misses, contaminated bins, and non-conforming waste promptly, ensuring all paperwork is accurately completed with job tickets.
• Maintain vehicles to a high standard, including cleanliness and weekly wheel nut torque checks.
• Provide excellent service to colleagues and customers, demonstrating reliability, and strong timekeeping.
• Be flexible towards working hours and be available for occasional overtime to meet business and depot needs
• Ensure full compliance with all Company policies and procedures including health and safety and employment.
• Any other duties, such as ad hoc projects, as requested by the job holder's Manager/Supervisor or the Board of Directors that are within the skills and capabilities of the job holder.

About You

• Valid LGV Class 2 (category C) licence plus Driver Qualification Card (DQC) and digital tachograph driver card
• Airside Pass (desirable for airport roles) and ADR certification (desirable for clinical roles)
• Experience of driving and operation of Rolonof, skips, FEL and Waste wheeler vehicles would be preferred,
• Practical skills including map reading, following directions, and demonstrating behaviours aligned to our workplace values
• A proactive, "can-do" attitude with flexibility to take on new tasks and additional hours when required.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a professional and customer-focused approach.
• Ability to work well in a team while also using your own initiative.
• Basic understanding of Health & Safety requirements, with a commitment to attending all necessary training.
