Job title: Waste Management Consultant
Job Type: Permanent

Salary Range: Negotiable (DOE)

Location: Warrington or Cumbria
Hybrid Working Available - Work from Home up to 3 Days Per Week
Hours of work: 37 Hours Per Week

Role & Responsibilities:

  1. Contributing to business development by supporting proposals/bids, supporting waste discipline and implementing improvement initiatives.
  2. Undertaking activities in support of continuous professional development.
  3. Contributing to developing creative ideas, strategies and new service offers which aim to better manage waste to UK and international Clients.
  4. Carrying out studies, research and analysis relating to waste management and Characterisation.
  5. Providing robust and timely technical radioactive waste management expertise to support a range of clients in new build, operations and decommissioning.
  6. Advising on some of the following areas: characterisation (including sentencing), management, production, treatment, storage, packaging and consignment of radioactive waste.
  7. Working with our other departments, such as safety case, decommissioning and engineering to provide our clients with a comprehensive offering.
  8. Producing technical reports for example: Waste Strategies, Project Waste Management Plans, BAT studies, optionee rings, Characterisation strategies, Sampling Plans utilising DQO, packaging proposals, calculations associated with waste activity assessment or dose assessment, generation or application of fingerprints.
  9. Supporting and mentoring junior colleagues.

Qualifications/Experience Required:
  1. BSc/MSc or BEng/MEng in a relevant nuclear engineering, decommissioning, waste management or engineering (preferably with a specialist in nuclear) field.
  2. Minimum of 5 years professional engineering/technical specialist experience.
  3. Experience in nuclear decommissioning or waste management projects.
  4. Good working knowledge of UK and/or international legislation, policy, regulatory guidance and best practice relating to radioactive waste management and characterisation.
  5. Knowledge of the radioactive waste supply chain in the UK and/or internationally, such as available waste disposal, storage or treatment facilities and their acceptance criteria and permits.
  6. An appreciation of the full lifecycle of radioactive waste from planning for decommissioning at the design phase, through to permit surrender after decommissioning and remediation.
  7. Experience in writing a technical report/memo on technical subjects to clients' requirements to convey message/findings of a project in clear and effective manner.
  8. Good communication skills appropriate for client facing interactions as well as interactions with colleagues of various levels and disciplines.

UK National Security Vetting Status - Candidates must be able to obtain UKSV SC Clearance.
