We are looking for a Waste Infrastructure Team Leader to manage our Waste Transfer Station Team and help ensure that Torfaen’s waste, recycling and depot infrastructure is well managed, resilient and ready to meet future service demands.
In this role, you will oversee the contract for the management of the Household Recycling Centre and Waste Transfer Station at New Inn and act as a Technically Competent Manager for the Council’s waste and recycling sites. You will also manage the Waste Transfer Station Team, stock, plant and equipment, while maintaining robust systems for inspections, asset management, performance monitoring and internal audit.
You will play a key role in ensuring compliance with environmental permits, health and safety requirements and Environmental Management Plans across the service. Working closely with colleagues, contractors, off-takers and external partners, including Natural Resources Wales and the Welsh Government, you will support infrastructure projects, depot improvements and the development of electric vehicle charging provision.
We are looking for someone with relevant experience in waste, depot or asset management and experience at management or supervisory level. You will be confident working with external stakeholders to demonstrate compliance, able to organise competing priorities and committed to developing staff and supporting their health, safety and wellbeing.
You must hold, or be willing to work towards, a Certificate of Technical Competence in Waste Management and hold a NEBOSH, IOSH or equivalent health and safety qualification. Strong IT, communication, organisational and performance management skills are essential, together with the ability to deal calmly and constructively with difficult situations and follow projects through to completion.
This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference to residents by helping to deliver safe, efficient and sustainable waste and recycling services across Torfaen. A flexible approach to working hours is required to support operational needs and service provision.
