Job Introduction

We’re looking for a Waste Management Operative to join our Sodexo team at Wythenshawe Hospital. In this role, you’ll take charge of daily waste surveys in the compound, efficiently manage general waste using the compactor, and ensure cardboard is baled properly. Your attention to detail will keep waste containers and Sulo bins emptied and ready for collection, helping maintain a clean, safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors. If you’re proactive, reliable, and take pride in supporting a smooth, hygienic operation, this is your chance to be part of something greater. Join Sodexo and thrive in a team where your efforts truly matter.

What you’ll do:

Ensure cardboard waste is properly discharged into the cardboard baler.

Ensure general waste bags are emptied into the compactor.

Liaise with the Trust waste manager and service providers to arrange compactor emptying when full.

Keep designated work areas securely locked when unattended.

Clean waste compound and reception areas near Sulo bins, skips, and waste transfer points.

Follow health and safety protocols, wear PPE, and report any risks related to waste handling or equipment.

Maintain records of Sulo bins needing repair, including faults, ID numbers, and storage locations, for service coordination.

Provide holiday and sickness cover for team members as required and expect the same in return.

Take responsibility for personal and colleague health and safety, following safe systems of work (SSOW) and safety notices; assist other trade teams when needed.

What you bring:

  • Physical capability to carry out cleaning duties across various hospital areas
  • A friendly, customer-focused attitude with a willingness to go the extra mile
  • A strong commitment to health and safety standards
  • Professionalism, integrity, and a neat, presentable appearance

What we offer:

Working at Sodexo isn’t just a job — it’s a chance to make a difference every day. You'll be part of a supportive team, act with purpose, and thrive in a role where your work matters. We also offer a range of benefits to support you and your loved ones:

  • Salary finance tools and financial wellbeing resources
  • Retirement savings plan and life insurance
  • Full training and protective uniform provided.
  • Opportunities to gain experience through learning and development.
  • Cycle to Work scheme & volunteering opportunities.
  • Flexible working and a dynamic team environment
  • Competitive pay
