Job Purpose
To support the Warehouse Manager in leading the day-to-day warehouse operation, supervising a team of warehouse operatives ensuring the safe, accurate, and efficient handling of goods from receipt through to despatch maintaining high operational standards, and working hands-on alongside the team when required.
What You’ll Do
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all team members follow health and safety procedures and use equipment correctly
- Conduct regular safety checks and report hazards or incidents promptly
- Support the Warehouse Manager in accident investigations and implementing corrective actions
Operational Oversight
- Supervise daily warehouse activities including goods-in, putaway, picking, packing, and despatch.
- Ensure accurate and timely completion of tasks to meet service levels and customer expectations
- Allocate resources effectively and adjust priorities based on operational demands
- Work hands-on with the team during peak periods or when operationally require
- Support audits and stock checks, ensuring high levels of inventory accuracy
Team Leadership & Development
- Conduct regular team briefings, 1:1s, and performance reviews to ensure alignment with operational goals
- Support succession planning and staff development through mentoring and training initiatives
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and team engagement
- Encourage a culture of accountability and continuous improvement within the team
People Management
- Supervise and lead a team of warehouse operatives operatives, providing clear direction, coaching, and support
- Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures and company policies
- Monitor attendance, performance and conduct
- Conduct return-to-work interviews, monitor attendance, and manage absence in line with company policy
- Support performance management through regular feedback, reviews, and development planning
- Promote a positive, inclusive, and safety-conscious working environment
- Address personnel issues promptly, escalating to management or HR when appropriate
Essential
Who You Are:
- Experience in a warehouse or logistics environment, ideally in a supervisory or team leader role
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a team
- Hands-on approach with a willingness to work alongside the team when needed
- Good understanding of warehouse operations and health & safety practices
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Confident in use of IT and WMS (Warehouse Management Systems)
Desirable
- Experience in industries involving boilers, air conditioning, heat pumps, solar, or EV charging products
- Recognised health and safety qualification (e.g., IOSH Working Safely or equivalent)
- Forklift license or experience with material handling equipment (MHE)
