Job description

Wincanton, for Sainsbury's at our Thameside depot in London, is looking for a Warehouse Shift Manager to join the team. Reporting to the Depot Operations Manager, the Shift Manager leads a team of Warehouse Team Managers, ensuring safe operational performance while meeting all key performance indicators to exceed customer expectations.

We receive, pick, and load store orders accurately, safely, and in a timely manner to meet the outbound loading schedule across our four grocery chambers (ambient, frozen, chill, and produce). Candidates with experience in a multi-temperature, food environment are preferred.

Shift times are rotating earlies and lates, 06:00-14:00 and 14:00-22:00, with any 5 days from 7.

How will you contribute?
  • Proactively motivate and lead a team of Managers to achieve targets and meet deadlines
  • Support, monitor, report on, and deliver operational KPIs
  • Ensure a proactive approach to Health & Safety
  • Provide responsive and professional service to customers and colleagues
  • Manage performance, attendance, overtime, and sickness of team members
  • Monitor and manage budgets
  • Manage customer expectations and ensure escalations are handled promptly
  • Lead onsite Union relationships and meetings alongside other Shift Managers

  • Strong People Management skills, including handling disciplinary and grievance processes
  • Management or supervisory experience in a multi-temperature, food, or grocery environment
  • Strong operational knowledge and background
  • Experience managing customer relationships and expectations
  • Proven leadership in a unionized environment
  • Excellent communication skills
  • A positive attitude with a proactive approach to improvements
