Job description
Overview

Job title: Pharmacy Checker

Working days: Monday-Friday

Hours: 12.00pm - 20.00pm with flexibility

Breaks: 2x 15 minutes paid breaks and 1x 30 minute lunch unpaid

Pay: Basic rate £12.87/hr + Shift premium £1.16/hr = £14.03/hr; Overtime after 37.5 hours worked £19.30/hr and £25.75/hr on Sundays/Bank Holidays

Responsibilities
  • To ensure all patient orders in the warehouse are picked accurately and labelled. Ancillary items are 100% checked for accuracy and errors are recorded on designated forms and corrected with the intervention of the Responsible Pharmacist.
  • To ensure prescriptions are filed as per the pharmacy checker’s prescription filing process.
  • To assist the pharmacists to ensure compliance with General Pharmaceutical Council standards and company SOPs.
  • To perform activities related to receiving, picking, assembling and preparing products to meet customer order requirements.
  • To carry out 100% checks on all ancillaries for accuracy in product code, product description, batch, expiry date and quantity required.
  • To accurately pick, label and stage all MCB orders (including setup on Polar Speed).
  • To ensure home patient orders have correct patient labels on every box and that the name on the pharmacy labels matches the dispatch label, per the pharmacy checkers labeling process.
  • To record patient names, order numbers, picker initials and checker name on the Renal Checking Form F04UKPHN001; after accuracy checks, the form is passed to the pharmacist for a final check.
  • Work with the operational warehouse team under the supervision of the Responsible Pharmacist to correct picking errors at the time of detection and inform duty pharmacists as needed. If an error is detected, enter details on the Renal Error Record Form F05UKPHN001.
  • Maintain error logs and produce key performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure high quality performance.
  • Check all orders in a timely manner to meet scheduled deliveries.
  • Follow the Responsible Pharmacist notice to all pharmacy staff during the pharmacist’s absence.
  • Perform additional duties related to the management of the checkers team, including printing labels, checking forms, and requesting stationary material.
  • Undertake risk assessments under the supervision of a Pharmacist.
  • Undertake the end-of-year prescription archiving process under supervision, including quarantine of prescriptions scheduled for destruction.
  • Undertake additional duties as directed by warehouse operations and duty pharmacists, such as picking medical products, preparing cardboard boxes, wrapping pallets and preparing reports.
  • Support Good Documentation Practice (GDP) and Good Warehouse Practice (GWP) programs at UK warehouses to ensure appropriate product storage.
  • Match faxed prescriptions with original prescriptions as per the prescription filing process.
  • Maintain and file prescriptions in customer patient folders under pharmacist supervision on duty.
  • Ensure prescriptions and pharmacists checking forms are kept for the legal duration and maintain patient and customer confidentiality.
  • Conform to all applicable Standard Operating Procedures for Pharmacy and operating practices.
  • Conform to company policies regarding EHS, Quality and Validation.
  • Conform to the company Code of Conduct.
  • Attend regular communication, awareness and training sessions as directed by line manager, pharmacists on duty, the Responsible Pharmacist or other presentations.
Qualifications and Requirements

  • Computer skills (Word, Excel, Windows, Wise).
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing situations in the warehouse and to work within a team.
  • Attention to detail and ability to solve problems in a timely manner using critical thinking.
  • Able to use a forklift truck is not essential but would be an advantage.
  • Essential: Working towards completion or having completed the Level 2 Dispensing Assistant Course (Pharmacy Service Skills NVQ Level 2).
