Job summary

Tgs-Group is seeking a Material Controller for a full-time permanent on-site role in Fishponds, Bristol. The successful candidate will ensure materials are available for production, monitor shortages, and coordinate actions with Production, Planning and Stores.

You will also maintain shortage lists and record material movements in Dynamics, contributing to accurate stock records and timely production support.

Qualifications

• Experience in material control and inventory management.
• Experience using ERP or production-control systems.
• Strong Excel and MS Office skills.
• Excellent organisation and attention to detail.
• Experience working in a manufacturing environment.
• Knowledge of cycle counting, kitting or line-side material delivery.
• Awareness of 5S/lean manufacturing or kanban principles.

Responsibilities

• Check material availability against the daily production plan.
• Identify shortages that could affect scheduled production.
• Maintain an accurate shortage list showing required dates, current status, agreed actions and owners.
• Communicate material shortages to Production, Planning, Purchasing and Stores.
• Follow up agreed shortage actions and expedite urgent or overdue issues.
• Coordinate the timely movement and issue of available materials to production.
• Ensure material issues, returns and stock adjustments are recorded correctly in Dynamics.
• Investigate basic stock discrepancies with Stores and Production.
• Support scheduled cycle counts and shortage reconciliation.
• Provide a concise material-status update during daily operational meetings.
• Report recurring material problems to the appropriate department for further investigation.

Job description

Vacancy: We are looking to recruit a Material Controller on a full-time permanent basis. This role is based on site in Fishponds Bristol BS16.

Salary and hours: Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5pm, 40 hours per week, from £30,000 per year.

The Material Controller ensures that materials required for production are available in the correct quantity and location at the required time. The role maintains clear visibility of shortages; coordinates agreed actions with relevant departments and supports accurate stock records.

Key responsibilities:

• Check material availability against the daily production plan.
• Identify shortages that could affect scheduled production.

The Material Controller coordinates and communicates material requirements but does not own supplier negotiations, production planning, engineering data or warehouse management.

Engineering remains responsible for bills of material, routings and technical product data. Purchasing remains responsible for commercial supplier management and purchase-order placement.

Essential skills and experience:

• Experience in material control, inventory control, stores, production support or a similar operational role.
• Experience using ERP or a similar stock or production-control system.
• Good understanding of basic inventory-control principles.
• Competence in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to maintain accurate mat

• Clear written and verbal communication skills.
