Job description

Providing services to manufacturing operations, including inbound materials, site warehousing, logistics, and transport for stock movements and outbound customer deliveries. The role covers raw materials, packaging, finished goods, administration, and export. Outbound logistics involves order control, picking, transport arrangements, and customer liaison where necessary. The role requires leading the team within the function to ensure product quality, transaction accuracy, customer service, and health and safety.

Responsibilities:

  1. Effectively plan stores and warehousing space to optimize space availability, labor utilization, safe storage, accurate stock controls, and efficient RH&D.
  2. Review, embed, and establish procedures for logistics to improve control, accuracy, and operational efficiency.
  3. Formalize and implement SOPs and supporting training to maintain and improve ways of working.
  4. Establish KPIs and manage individual and team performance through training needs identification, including staff resource allocation aligned with business needs.
  5. Manage legal health and safety requirements, good housekeeping, and management practices at all times.
  6. Align procedures with customer requirements effectively and accurately.
  7. Be an integral part of the Sales and Operational Planning team to develop and improve planning, picking, packing procedures, and control of cost-effective delivery of goods to customers, including despatch and onward distribution.
  8. Ensure production areas are clear of packaging and finished goods promptly, and packaging requirements are provided when needed.
  9. Recommend appropriate packaging specifications and handling systems to minimize damage.
  10. Manage contractual terms and KPIs with logistics service providers.
  11. Develop systems to ensure stock accuracy, including monthly location audits and system data upkeep.
  12. Collaborate with colleagues to develop stock reduction policies.
  13. Assist with resourcing picking, packing, and administrative staff for the site.

Management:

  1. Supervise stock and logistics routines, procedures, and practices.
  2. Ensure the safe use of equipment.
  3. Maintain effective traceability of all food materials and products, including record keeping, systems, procedures, audits, and team training.
  4. Ensure quality and conformity of food safety controls, escalate non-conformities, communicate standards within the supply chain, and support food safety and quality culture.
  5. Develop warehousing and logistics skills through team support and training.
  6. Manage individual performance and training needs.
  7. Set budgets and control local expenditures.
  8. Procure relevant consumables as required.

Planning:

  1. Be a key stakeholder in the S&OP process and part of the supply chain team to achieve customer service goals.
  2. Communicate with operations, planning, and director teams to ensure agreement and support for warehouse and logistics resources, fostering teamwork and material flow optimization.
  3. Resource and allocate staff according to business needs.

Performance & Reporting:

  1. Monitor stock accuracy, customer service levels, and labor performance.
  2. Ensure compliance with quality, hygiene, and food safety standards.
  3. Report, escalate, and plan actions to address non-conformances.
  4. Intervene and escalate issues related to third-party logistics non-conformances and quality concerns.

Quality:

  1. Implement working practices that meet food safety, quality, and product integrity standards.
  2. Maintain BRC standards consistently.
  3. Support the development and implementation of SOPs and training to improve operational practices.
