The Wardrobe Team at Historic Royal Palaces are the custodians of a large collection of costumes representing many centuries which are used by actors and interpreters year-round for a variety of programmes. We costume for live performances, school sessions and digital content across Tower of London, Hampton Court Palace, Kensington Palace and occasionally Banqueting House.

We are increasing our small and dedicated team to include a full time Costume Technician who will be responsible for creating new costumes and helping to maintain the wider stock across all sites. This is a unique role in the Costume industry as it follows a Monday-Friday, 9-5 structure with minimal evening and weekend working. You will be based at the Hampton Court Palace workroom but would be required to travel occasionally to support launching new performances or moving stock between palaces. For those with an adequate Home Studio, working from home will be considered but the Technician should assume they will work onsite the majority of week to support basic maintenance on programmes while they are live.

Salary - £37,498 per annum

We are looking for someone with considerable experience in theatre and/or film & tv with a passion for historical clothing reimagined as functioning, multi size, robust costumes that are both practical and capture the imagination of our visitors. You are required to be proficient in pattern drafting, construction, fitting and dressing to a high level as well as confident and personable when interacting with performers.

You should be able to move, collect and carry items on a routine basis and work efficiently independently as well as be a supportive member of our team.
