Alongside the current ward manager, the successful candidate will provide managerial support and direct line management for Mendip birth centre. You will be responsible for maintaining a high level of clinical skills and practice. Be responsible for the day-to-day operational management of the team, whilst providing professional and managerial leadership. This post will provide the clinical and managerial leadership with the Matron taking responsibility for providing a clear focus for the profession and effective clinical leadership and accountability for the service. They will be responsible for ensuring that the team act in a manner that upholds the values of the Trust and that of the profession. Working in collaboration with the Matron and Specialty team the individual will be expected to: Participate in activity with the Specialist team to manage and develop the service in line with local and national requirements ensuring the delivery of performance targets; Line manage a team of staff. Work closely with Matron to ensure the efficient and effective running of mendip birth centre. Have overall responsibility for ensuring their clinical area is safe. Deputise for the Matron and form part of the Directorate senior team; Contribute to the development of patient-centered services; Be responsible for successful attainment of Trust and National quality and safety objectives within area of responsibility; and provide expert clinical advice.
Main duties of the job
To provide a high standard of woman-centred care in a multi professional complex setting in Mendip birth centre. To be an expert and professional role model for others in the field of postnatal care and newborns requiring additional support. To offer advice to all of the MDT that so that they can also achieve a high standard of women-centred care. This includes junior midwives, junior doctors, midwifery and AHP students. To have continuing responsibility for the leadership for the midwifery/ nursing supervision and management of midwives, nurses, students and maternity support workers in Women and Children’s on a day-to-day basis and in the absence of the Matron. This post will provide the clinical and managerial leadership with the Matron taking responsibility for providing a clear focus for the profession and effective clinical leadership and accountability for the service. They will be responsible for ensuring that they and their team act in a manner that upholds the values of the Trust and that of the profession. They will be working in collaboration with the Matron and Specialty team. To lead on projects in collaboration with the Matron and be part of the change management of the ward.

The service at North Bristol Trust provides a full range of obstetric services for those who live in the catchment of North Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset. Our maternity department has 5200 births each year. Our involvement in world renowned research has led to the development of PROMPT. At our last CQC inspection, we were rated as ‘good’, meaning we are performing well and meeting expectations. We are fully committed to building on this success and we encourage all staff to have a voice and share ideas and innovations.
We have a consultant led Obstetric Unit with 2 HDU rooms, 9 birthing rooms and a pool room. We also have an extensive Maternal Medicine service, including Perinatal Mental Health and Complex Care team and a Fetal Medicine service. Our antenatal ward hosts a Triage, day assessment area and inpatient ward and our postnatal ward prides itself on giving the best quality postnatal care.
