Job summary

Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals is seeking a Ward Manager for its Renal wards in the NHS Trust. The role focuses on clinical leadership, delivery of high standards of holistic care, and direct management of ward areas and nursing staff.

The post involves developing evidence‑based practice, supervising specialised renal care, and ensuring education, development and patient outcomes align with current guidelines and research. Flexible working arrangements are encouraged.

Responsibilities

• Ensure all care delivered is evidence based and guidelines are up to date.
• Monitor standards of care using fundamentals of care audit framework.
• Oversee selection, deployment, training and development of staff and students.
• Assess, develop and implement specialised nursing packages of care with the MDT to maintain standards.
• Create and support lifelong learning and continuing professional development.
• Refer and order specialised tests per protocols and governance guidelines.
• Assist in development of evidence based practice in the renal service.
• Deliver specialist haemodialysis treatments including HDF & SLED in acute setting.
• Provide specialist respiratory care (CPAP, Optiflow, BiPAP) in acute care.
• Implement educational strategies to meet patient care needs.
• Provide highly specialised nursing advice to ensure appropriate treatment and care for patients.

We are offering a ward manager role on our Renal wards.

Can you Provide Clinical Expertise and visible leadership and support for the Renal acute care unit and Renal Wards. Enable staff to ensure that the fundamentals of care are correctly and actively in place and that highest standards of holistic care are achieved in the delivery of care and treatment. Directly manage the ward areas and the nursing staff. The expectations of this role will be met by professional leadership, skilled and expert practice and management, direct clinical care, education and training. Develop and update guidelines and related practice in line with current research. Monitor standards of care, manage selection, deployment, training and development of staff and students. Assesses and develops and implements specialised nursing packages of care and is responsible for maintenance of standards by all members of the multi-disciplinary team. Create and support an environment of lifelong learning and continuous professional development. Provides highly specialised nursing advice to ensure appropriate treatment and care is delivered to the patient at all times. Refers and orders specialised tests in line with agreed protocols and clinical governance guidelines To assist in the development of evidence based practice in the renal service.

To have responsibility for the following aspects of care and management:

• Delivers specialist haemodialysis treatments including HDF & SLED in acute setting.
• Delivers specialist respiratory care acute CPAP,Optiflow and Bipap
• Educational strategies that ensure patient care needs are met.
• Provides highly specialised nursing advice to ensure appropriate treatment and care is delivered to the patient at all times in line with NICE guidelines and UK Kidney association guidelines.
• Is accountable for the provision, organisation and direction of the nursing care for the patient in his/her care.
