Job summary

University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire is seeking a Ward 43 Clinical Sister/Charge Nurse to coordinate the ward and provide clinical leadership. The role focuses on delivering high-quality patient care, mentoring staff, and collaborating with the management team to drive service improvements.

You will oversee clinical assessment, lead cross-departmental activities, and ensure patient safety, with emphasis on infection control and adherence to Trust policies.

Qualifications

• Accountable for actions under the Code of Professional Conduct.
• Communicate clinical decisions clearly to patients, carers and multi-disciplinary team.
• Provide clinical leadership and supervision as needed.
• Coordinate ward activities across departments and HR/resource roles.
• Demonstrate technical and practical nursing skills in patient care.
• Educate and mentor junior staff; participate in appraisals.
• Utilise IT systems to ensure accurate patient and workforce data.
• Respond to clinical events with appropriate action while maintaining safety.
• Promote Health and Safety and infection control standards.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate the ward and deliver clinical care on Ward 43.
• Communicate policy and care pathways to patients and the team.
• Lead service and policy development with the management team.
• Assess patients and manage a team to plan and evaluate care.
• Organise cross-departmental activities including HR and resources.
• Demonstrate advanced clinical techniques and patient monitoring.
• Develop staff through supervision, mentorship and appraisal.
• Ensure accurate data using IT systems for patient, workforce and resources.
• Manage varying clinical events with appropriate effort.
• Support patients and carers during difficult situations with compassion.
• Maintain safety, cleanliness and infection control.
