An opportunity has arisen for a Band 2 Ward Clerk for Cardiology. The position will be based on Ward 6 and the Coronary care unit at the Alexandra hospital. The post is for 30 hours a week and is a permanent position.

Ward 6 is a 22 bedded ward. Coronary Care has 4 beds.

We are seeking a confident individual with excellent communication skills and a professional, tactful and diplomatic approach to work within this busy department.

This is a demanding but interesting and varied role. The successful candidate must possess the ability to work as part of a team and the initiative to work unsupervised when necessary. An understanding of confidentiality is essential as well as a commitment to delivering excellent customer service.

Previous hospital experience would be desirable. Good communication skills and excellent keyboard skills are also essential. Full training for this post will be provided..

Main duties of the job
  • To provideadministrative and clerical support to the ward, professional qualified staff andprovide first point of contact to all users of the service.
  • To ensure theavailability of accurate patient records and documentation as per Trustpolicies and procedures.
  • To liaise withpatients, relatives and other members of the public politely and efficiently,ensuring confidentiality and security of patient information as per Trustpolicy an in line with Information Governance guidance.

Job responsibilities
  • Receiving new patients and welcoming accompanying relatives/friends, explaining basic ward routine and answering initial questions pending Nurse in Charge being available.
  • Preparing identity bracelets as required, adding the #callme and labels for notes etc.
  • Making arrangements for patients discharge, including transfers to other hospitals and wards, booking transport.
  • Checking case notes, tidying and returning them to scan centre.
  • Answering several phones on the Ward in a professional manor and conveying messages to the appropriate person.
  • Photocopying, scanning and ordering paperwork required for the Ward.
  • To receive general telephone calls, recording messages and dealing with initial enquiries in a friendly professional manner and referring the call to the relevant member of staff, as appropriate.
  • To provide a reception service, gathering information and taking initial action within defined protocols to assist in resolving any queries.
Person Specification
Experience
  • Good standard of inputting/Keyboard Skills
  • IT Literate
  • Good verbal communication skills and telephone manner
  • Understanding the importance of confidentiality and apply the
  • principles in every day working practice
  • Experience in dealing tactfully with the public
  • Able to work as part of a team.
  • Familiar with Oasis/patient administration systems
  • Information Governance aware.
  • Aware of the importance of Confidentiality
Qualifications
  • Educated to GCSE Grade C, including English and Maths
