Responsibilities

  • Greet all visitors to the unit in a friendly, helpful, and courteous manner.
  • Organize paperwork and notes within the unit to ensure an organized department.
  • Answer the telephone, take and deliver messages appropriately, and manage the Out-patients diary.
  • Liaise effectively with staff from other departments, including the bed manager, medical records, and divisional bleep holders.
  • Deal with and distribute incoming mail, check, and reply to ward emails.
  • Maintain patient notes on the unit, ensuring they are well-organized, and test results are promptly and correctly filed.
  • Arrange outpatient appointments as required.
  • Use the Trust’s computer system to admit, transfer, and discharge patients.
  • Organize hospital transport as requested.
  • Undertake computer training courses as needed and ensure daily bed states are up to date.

Job description

Ward Clerk

Department: Ward 19

Band: 2 pro rata if part-time

Hours: 22.5 HOURS per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working

Ward 19 is a mixed sex, frailty, and general medicine 30-bedded ward. We have a large team of doctors, nurses, and therapy team members, and work closely with other multidisciplinary teams. We are friendly, approachable, and supportive, and are looking for a ward clerk to join our team.

Please note that this post is subject to an initial probationary period of six months, extendable up to 12 months. A DBS check may be required for new employees. MKUH promotes an inclusive workforce and actively encourages applications from underrepresented groups in our community.
