Job description

Ward Clerk

Department: Ward 19

Band: 2 pro rata if part-time

Hours: 22.5 hours per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working

Ward 19 is a mixed sex, frailty, and general medicine 30-bedded ward. We have a large team of doctors, nurses, and therapy staff, working closely with other multidisciplinary teams. We are friendly, approachable, and supportive, and are looking for a ward clerk to join our team.

Please note that this post is subject to an initial probationary period of six months, extendable up to 12 months. A DBS check may be required for new employees. MKUH promotes an inclusive workforce and encourages applications from underrepresented groups in our community.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Greet visitors courteously and helpfully.
  2. Organize paperwork and notes within the unit to ensure efficiency.
  3. Answer calls, take messages, and manage outpatient diaries.
  4. Coordinate with staff from other departments, including bed management and medical records.
  5. Manage incoming mail and ward emails.
  6. Maintain patient notes, ensuring test results are filed promptly and correctly.
  7. Arrange outpatient appointments.
  8. Process admissions, transfers, and discharges via the Trust’s computer system.
  9. Organize hospital transport as needed.
  10. Undertake computer training and keep bed states updated daily.
