Job description

Child Health at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is pleased to offer the opportunity to join us as a ward Clerk. As an integrated service, we pride ourselves on delivering healthcare at the point of need and are one of the few such organized services within the UK. Northbrook Ward on the Winchester site is an 18-bedded unit that provides care for children requiring admission as an emergency, from The Emergency Department (ED), Sophie’s Place (SP), or GPs. Children may also be booked in for treatment with Oncology, Orthopaedic, General Surgical, or Medical Problems.

Working closely with nursing, medical, other staff, and outside agencies, you will contribute to maintaining and developing an effective administrative, clerical, and secretarial service for inpatients, outpatients, and their families through key tasks such as:

  1. Updating the admission trolley daily
  2. Inputting information into IT systems used within Child Health, including admission, transfer, discharge, and coding systems, ensuring accuracy and currency
  3. Registering patients and adding encounter/episode and outcome details on the Trust’s patient administration system
  4. Maintaining ward administrative processes and systems, contributing to their ongoing development
  5. Welcoming new patients, verifying records, collating notes and paperwork, ensuring identity bracelets are available, and preparing documentation for emergencies
  6. Ensuring the security of the unit doors at all times to safeguard children and young people
  7. Providing front-line non-clinical information, advice, and guidance to patients, families, and external agencies such as GPs, health visitors, and social services

Our vision is to provide outstanding care for every patient. Patient care is at the heart of what we do across our sites at Basingstoke, Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester, and Andover War Memorial Hospital. Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust serves approximately 600,000 people across Hampshire and parts of West Berkshire, employing over 9,000 staff with a turnover exceeding £500 million annually.

We foster a culture that values people, where learning, improvement, and excellence thrive. We also provide specialist services nationally and internationally, including treatment for pseudomyxoma peritonei, and are leaders in tertiary liver and colorectal cancers.
