Job description

Wexham Park Critical Care is looking to appoint a Ward Clerk band 2 to join our Critical Care Team. We are seeking to appoint a motivated, dynamic, and professional individual who wishes to be part of a supportive and friendly multidisciplinary team.

As a Ward Clerk, you’ll be the first point of contact for patients, visitors, and staff within our busy and high-acuity ICU. You will be vital in ensuring the smooth coordination between healthcare staff, patients, and visitors.

The post requires full-time hours. It is advertised as a fixed-term for 12 months with the possibility of renewal to a permanent position.

Main duties of the job

  • General clerical and administrative duties, including any specialty-specific requirements compatible with the duties and responsibilities of the post.
  • Serve as the point of contact for all visitors to the unit, ensuring that patients, visitors, and staff are treated courteously, professionally, and with care, providing prompt assistance when required.

Complete all administrative duties relevant to the position, including:

  • Pre-admission administration responsibilities.
  • Managing and handling all telephone inquiries.
  • Welcoming new patients and visitors, including screening via the intercom system.
  • Reporting and following up on estates matters for the department.
  • Booking porters, assisting with keeping the ward tidy and presentable, organizing prompt removal of extra beds, mattresses, and equipment not required in the ward.
  • Assisting with patient and relative feedback.
  • Helping to maintain a safe working environment at the ward clerk/nurses station, ensuring it is organized and clutter-free.
  • Contributing to the overall positive presentation of the ward for patients and visitors, and reporting any risks within the environment to their line manager or ‘Shift In Charge’.
