Job summary

York Teaching Hospital Facilities Management is seeking a Cleaning Operative to maintain cleanliness across wards at York Hospital. You will perform general and specialist cleaning, handle cleaning machinery safely and follow infection prevention guidelines.

The role offers permanent full-time shifts including weekdays 07:30-15:30, 14:00-22:00, 17:00-20:00, and 17:00-22:00, plus weekend options; training will be provided.

Qualifications

• Good basic education, including reading, writing and basic numeracy.
• Willingness to complete relevant qualifications or training when required.

Responsibilities

• Clean assigned wards and areas in line with work schedules.
• Carry out specialist cleaning under guidance from supervisor or infection prevention.
• Lift items and operate cleaning machinery and equipment.
• Use machinery safely following training to avoid risk.
• Use cleaning materials economically and store them safely.
• Use correct colour-coded equipment to prevent cross-contamination.
• Work without immediate supervision, prioritise tasks and use initiative.
• Maintain cleaning standards under time pressure while delivering quality.
• Work at York Hospital.
