An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Ward Based Assistant Nursing Practitioner to join our team within the Acute Medicine Unit at Raigmore Hospital.

We are looking for a motivated, caring and compassionate nurse who is able to work well under pressure, is keen to learn and develop and work within an acute environment. The Acute Medicine Unit covers an Acute Assessment Unit, Ambulatory Emergency Care and Medical High Dependency Unit.

The Acute Assessment Unit (Ward GA) admits acutely unwell patients direct from the community & Emergency Department. This is a fast paced and interesting environment to work in. Candidates should have excellent care values and a strong sense of team spirit coupled with a sense of humour. Candidates should have enthusiasm to work, learn and develop yourself and colleagues within the exciting and challenging high pressure environment.

Hours of work will be to meet the needs of the service, covering a 24/7 period. Currently, and subject to change, the rota will be days/nights & weekends on an 11.5 hour shifts pattern.

Ward Based Assistant Practitioners are required to have completed a relevant qualification at SCQF level 7-8. Examples of common qualifications include:

  • Higher National Certificate/ Diploma (HNC/D)
  • Professional Development Award (PDA) at Level 8.

Training will be provided but candidates must have a minimum of standard grade pass (or equivalent) in English and two other national grade passes.

Applicants must have very good command of both written and spoken English, IT skills, and ideally have experience in an acute healthcare setting.

This is an ideal area to gain acute medical and critical care experience and be supported to develop your clinical skill.

This is a full-time permanent post of 37 hours per week working as per service requirements.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.
