Job Description:

NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Ward Based Assistant Nursing Practitioner to join our team within the Acute Medicine Unit at Raigmore Hospital.

We are looking for a motivated, caring, and compassionate nurse who can work well under pressure, is keen to learn and develop, and can work within an acute environment. The Acute Medicine Unit covers an Acute Assessment Unit, Ambulatory Emergency Care, and Medical High Dependency Unit.

The Acute Assessment Unit (Ward GA) admits acutely unwell patients directly from the community & Emergency Department. This is a fast-paced and interesting environment. Candidates should have excellent care values, a strong team spirit, and a good sense of humor. Enthusiasm to work, learn, and develop oneself and colleagues in this high-pressure environment is essential.

Hours of work will meet the service needs and cover a 24/7 period. The current rota involves days/nights & weekends on 11.5-hour shifts, subject to change.

Ward Based Assistant Practitioners need a relevant qualification at SCQF level 7-8, such as Higher National Certificate/Diploma (HNC/D) or Professional Development Award (PDA) at Level 8. Training will be provided, but candidates must have a minimum of a standard grade pass (or equivalent) in English and two other national grade passes.

Applicants must have excellent command of written and spoken English, IT skills, and ideally experience in an acute healthcare setting. This role offers an opportunity to gain acute medical and critical care experience and support your clinical skill development.

This is a full-time, permanent post of 37 hours per week, working as per service requirements.

Application Process:

NHS Highland covers Highland and Argyll & Bute, and promotes a positive organizational culture aligned with NHS and Social Care values:

  • Care and compassion
  • Dignity and respect
  • Openness, honesty, and responsibility
  • Quality and teamwork

Note: NHS Scotland is reducing the full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours from 1 April 2024, with no change in pay. This change may be temporarily offset by up to 30 additional minutes per week in some service areas until new rosters are implemented.
