The Royal Mencap Society is looking for a compassionate Waking Night Support Worker in Horwich, Bolton. The successful candidate will assist individuals with learning disabilities, providing personalized support and fostering meaningful relationships. Calling all compassionate and dedicated individuals! Mencap is seeking a passionate Waking Night Support Worker to join our incredible team in Horwich, Bolton.
As a Support Worker, you will have the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of individuals with learning disabilities. You will be working with a diverse group of people, each with their own unique abilities and needs. From assisting with daily activities to providing emotional support, you will play a vital role in their life.
This service in Horwich is a Registered Care Home that currently supports four people with profound & multiple learning disabilities. The property is located in the Horwich district of Bolton. The Service currently supports four people, three females, two in their sixties and one in her forties. We also support a gentleman in his early forties.
One lady enjoys going bowling, going to social clubs and to Blackpool. One lady likes to watch TV, particularly older films and comedies. She enjoys listening to relaxing music. She enjoys a peaceful environment. This lady likes to go out with staff in her vehicle, she likes having a meal out and people watching, she likes outdoor places in summer. She doesn’t like crowded places. She enjoys aromatherapy and pamper sessions. This lady likes to spend time in her room for periods during the day. Our next lady prefers the home environment, she will have a trip to the local shop, but doesn’t like to venture further. She likes to help with her laundry and enjoys watching staff when doing her ironing. The gentleman we support likes to go to the cinema, shopping with staff and travelling on buses and trains and out in his car. He likes films, particularly the action movies. He also likes listening to music, particularly 80s and 90s music. This gentleman also likes to spend time in his room for periods during the day.
Three of the people we support are non verbal and communicate in their own way with vocal sounds and gestures. One person is verbal but has a limited vocabulary.
The people we support all have high medical needs, we support with epilepsy, PEG / JEJ support, catheter care, medication, mobility, moving and handling, and support with eating and drinking.
What we are looking for:
· A genuine passion for supporting others.
· Excellent communication skills and the ability to build meaningful relationships.
· Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
· A positive and empathetic attitude towards individuals with learning disabilities.
Contract options:
Shift times:· Approx 8 nights over a 4 week rota
All our services are 24hr care. We prepare the rotas at least 4 weeks in advance so you can still plan your personal and social life!
*All roles are subject to an enhanced DBS check and suitable references.
