Job summary

Apple Orchard in Horsham, West Sussex, is seeking a friendly Waking Night Residential Childcare Support Worker to join our team. You will help young people build relationships, stay safe, and support their daily routines.

A Level 3 qualification in Residential Childcare is ideal but not essential; we welcome applicants willing to work towards it. This full-time, permanent role offers a salary of £28,619.14 per year plus overtime opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Promote welfare and safety of young people in line with policy.
• Attend weekly staff meetings and supervision sessions when not on shift.
• Attend required training and when needed, participate in annual holidays.
• Arrive on time, complete handovers, and stay informed about each young person's needs.
• Understand each young person to help meet emotional and practical needs.
• Support bedtime routines and encourage good hygiene.
• Monitor young people overnight and document disturbances and key events.
• Complete nightly paperwork, including registers, checks and task sheets.
• Prepare breakfast, promote healthy eating, and tidy away afterwards.
• Carry out any additional duties requested by the line manager.

Salary: £28,619.14 per annum, with the opportunity to earn additional income through overtime

Location: Horsham, West Sussex

Contract: Full Time, Permanent

Specific Hours: Up to 55 hours per week, depending on the home and rota pattern

We're looking for friendly, outgoing Waking Night Residential Childcare Support Workers to join our supportive team. A Level 3 qualification in Residential Childcare (or similar) is ideal, but not essential - we welcome applications from those willing to work towards it.

Responsibilities

• Please note that rota patterns will vary depending on the service. Current patterns include: 22:00 - 09:00, averaging 40 hours per week, on a four nights on, four nights off rota
• Averaging 55 hours per week, on a five nights on, five nights off rota, with occasional additional nights required to meet service needs
• Promote the welfare and safety of young people in line with the Children Act 1989
• Attend weekly staff meetings and supervision sessions when not on shift the night before
• Take part in required training and attend the annual summer holiday when required
• Arrive on time, complete handovers, and stay informed about each young person's needs and events of the day
• Build an understanding of each young person to help assess and meet their ongoing emotional and practical needs
• Support consistent bedtime routines and encourage good hygiene habits
• Monitor young people throughout the night, recording all disturbances, movements and key events clearly
• Complete nightly paperwork, including the Daily Register, fridge/freezer checks, fire alarm tests and task sheets
• Prepare the breakfast table, promote healthy eating, and tidy away afterwards
• Carry out any additional duties requested by the line manager
• Maintain safety and security at all times - this is the highest priority
