VP, Marine Insurance

Job Description

We are seeking a strategic leader to develop and oversee the risk financing operation for marine liability and all-risk worldwide commercial risk exposure emanating from the trading activities of DHL Group's worldwide businesses. As the Head of Marine Risk Management, you will be responsible for identifying and assessing marine risks, developing business opportunities, and implementing financing solutions. You will also lead a team responsible for executing marine risk activities and play a key role in advising senior management on transport and logistics-related risk exposures.

Main Tasks

• Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the Group's service portfolio, divisional strategies, and organizational structures.
• Execute marine all-risk and marine liability risk financing strategies across all divisions worldwide.
• Establish and implement medium-term (5-10 years) strategies impacting business results.
• Oversee the delivery of risk financing strategies, optimizing the use of balance sheet, captive, fronting insurance, and risk transfer mechanisms.
• Manage underwriting results, including reporting on loss ratios, claim trends, and market share/development.
• Develop the marine book, drive internal market share, and maintain 'break-even' underwriting targets while maximizing DHL Group's balance sheet protection and EBIT targets.
• Oversee pricing of marine risks, ensuring a compliant and timely referral process for various risk types.
• Lead and manage a team of subject matter experts.
• Contribute to the non-life insurance risk strategy and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure seamless risk management services.

Stakeholder Management

• Engage with divisional boards at global and regional levels, focusing on commercial business development.
• Collaborate with global and regional IRM stakeholders, senior management, and other functions like finance, legal, security, operations, trade compliance, and business development.
• Manage relationships with external service providers, including insurers, claims handlers, brokers, and advisors.

Management Responsibility

Manage and lead the marine risk function, consisting of 3 full-time employees.

Your Profile

• University degree and/or professional qualification in insurance or other business management qualification.
• 15+ years of experience in marine underwriting within a global multinational insurance company, broker, or in-house risk function.
• Experience in transport and logistics risk management and strategy.
• Extensive background in account management, servicing, placement, and negotiation of marine transport and logistics insurance coverages, as well as marine insurance and international trade law.
• Knowledge of or experience in logistics and/or supply chain business.
• Proven track record in developing, coaching, and leading teams in a multinational environment.
• Excellent data analytics, project management, and communication skills.
