Job description

Our client, a major international shipping operator based in London, is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to oversee efficient operations for part of their container fleet.

The ideal candidate will:

• Have sailed as Chief Officer / Captain on Container vessels (preferred but will consider other vessel types)
• Achieve demonstrable success in operational vessel management ashore
• Manage up to 10-11 vessels / voyages simultaneously
• Be an outstanding vessel operator and collaborative leader, balancing the needs of ship, crew, and stakeholders
• Note: Candidates who sailed as Second Officer but have significant success ashore, or highly experienced operators without a seagoing background, may be considered

Key responsibilities include:

• Overseeing daily vessel operations, ensuring compliance with policies, regulations, safety standards, and Charter Party terms
• Prioritizing safety of crew, vessel, and environment
• Minimizing operational costs and optimizing vessel performance
• Supporting Masters and Officers with clear communication and voyage instructions
• Addressing operational issues promptly to minimize delays
• Acting as the main contact between fleet and shore management, providing updates and reports
• Planning bunker supplies in accordance with guidelines
• Conducting fleet audits and performance reviews for compliance and efficiency
• Investigating operational incidents and implementing corrective actions
• Collaborating with technical, crewing, safety, and commercial departments
• Promoting safety culture onboard vessels
• Attending ships as required

Additional duties:

• Participate in emergency/crisis management teams
• Stay informed of industry regulations and update fleet procedures accordingly
• Maintain up-to-date documentation and voyage correspondence
