An established community service is seeking passionate volunteers to join the Croydon Youth Justice Service as Community Panel Members. Job description

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

Do you care about the young people of Croydon and would like an opportunity to support them to build their identity and make positive choices for their future?

This is an exciting opportunity to work with Croydon Youth Justice Service (YJS) who are looking for local volunteers to join the team as Community Panel Members (CPM’s). A great opportunity if you could spare 1.5 hours, 2 or 3 times a month (or more) to help shape the future of young people. A real opportunity to make a difference and a chance to use and develop your skills and experience.

Who we are:

Croydon YJS is part of Croydon Council and works with young people who have come to police attention and/or have been sentenced by the Courts.

Description of role:

CPM’s play an active role in creating intervention plans with young people who are subject to Referral Orders from the Court. In this role you will represent the local community when a young person has been given a Referral Order from Court. This is mainly for young people who have appeared in Court for the first time and have pleaded guilty.

Requirements:

  1. You would need to attend compulsory training on four consecutive Saturdays (dates to be confirmed).
  2. Interest in working with young people to help build their identity.
  3. Excellent communication skills, and ability to effectively engage with young people and their parents/carers.
  4. Personal integrity and discretion.
  5. An awareness of and respect for different ethnic, cultural and social backgrounds.
  6. Ability to work with others.
  7. An awareness of local issues affecting young people and communities.
  8. A firm commitment to confidentiality.
