Lead this charity’s volunteering strategy, champion diversity, and help build a thriving volunteer movement for the countryside by inspiring, supporting and engaging volunteers nationwide.

About You and The Role

This countryside charity is looking for an experienced and creative Volunteering Manager to lead the development and delivery of their volunteering strategy across their network of affiliated charities. This is an exciting opportunity to shape how people from all backgrounds engage with the organisation's mission for a thriving, beautiful countryside for everyone.

In this role, you will collaborate closely with staff and volunteers across England, coaching and supporting them to create welcoming, inclusive and engaging volunteer experiences. You’ll identify opportunities to strengthen the volunteer journey, from attraction and recruitment to engagement, voice and recognition, ensuring that their volunteering culture is accessible, diverse, supportive and inspiring. You will also drive the creation of new volunteering roles and programmes, with a particular focus on widening participation among groups currently under‑represented in the movement, including people of colour, disabled people, young people and people from working‑class backgrounds.

You will work with colleagues across departments, senior volunteers, and the local affiliated groups, as well as external partners such as universities and community groups, and organisations, to build strong pathways into volunteering. You’ll champion best practice, support volunteer coordinators and supervisors, and lead continuous improvement through feedback, learning and innovation.

This role is ideal for someone with proven volunteering engagement lead experience, strong coaching skills, and the ability to build consensus and energise others. You’ll be part of this organisation's shared services team, ensuring that the charity's volunteer engagement capacity matches its strategic ambitions.

About the Employer

This charity stands up for the countryside, celebrates its value, and promotes solutions to protect and regenerate it – now and for future generations.

2026 marks 100 years of standing up for the countryside. The charity's centenary is more than a celebration, it’s a call to action. It’s an invitation to Love Your Countryside: to protect what matters, regenerate what’s been lost and connect to the places that sustain us all.

This charity is committed to developing an inclusive and diverse organisation in which everyone feels supported, valued, and always able to be themselves at work, because they recognise that a diverse and inclusive workforce is important in achieving their vision of a thriving, beautiful countryside for everyone. They therefore welcome applications from people of all backgrounds. People from ethnic minority backgrounds and disabled people are currently underrepresented across the environment, climate, sustainability, and conservation sectors. If you identify as a person of ethnic minority background and/or disabled, they are particularly interested in receiving your application.
