Join to apply for the Volunteer Web designer | The View CiC role at XTRADEFACTORY GMBH

The View Magazine CiC seeks a Volunteer Web Designer to help build and maintain an accessible, user-friendly site that amplifies justice-driven content and expands our reach and advocacy impact.

What difference will you make?

As a Volunteer Web Designer with The View Magazine CiC, your work will have a powerful and lasting impact. You’ll play a key role in building and maintaining an accessible, engaging, and user-friendly website that supports women affected by the criminal justice system. Our magazine amplifies the voices of women with lived experience, challenges stigma, and drives systemic change. Your digital skills will help us present these voices with dignity and clarity—making their stories easier to access, engage with, and share. Your design choices will support trauma-informed storytelling, advocacy campaigns, and educational content that reaches readers, funders, and policymakers around the world. You’ll help us remove digital barriers, ensuring our site is inclusive for all users, including those with disabilities and people using mobile devices or low-bandwidth networks. Your work will also strengthen our ability to run impactful campaigns, grow our audience, and build a strong, trustworthy presence online. Most importantly, you’ll be part of a collaborative team committed to justice, empathy, and truth. You’ll help shift public narratives, support women with lived experience, and create a platform that empowers, informs, and inspires change. This role is more than design—it’s a chance to be part of a movement for dignity, visibility, and radical reform.

What are we looking for?

We’re looking for a passionate and skilled Volunteer Web Designer who believes in justice, equity, and the power of storytelling. This is a meaningful opportunity to support women affected by the criminal justice system through thoughtful, inclusive design and digital innovation. Skills and Experience Strong knowledge of website design principles and visual storytelling, with experience in platforms like WordPress, Wix, Squarespace, or similar CMS. Proficiency in HTML, CSS, and responsive design; familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1) is a plus. A strong eye for layout, typography, colour, and user experience (UX), especially in nonprofit, advocacy, or grassroots communications. Experience working with multimedia content (text, audio, video, imagery) and optimising it for digital formats. Ability to troubleshoot technical issues, implement updates, and collaborate with team members to maintain site performance and security. Familiarity with SEO principles, basic analytics tools (like Google Analytics), and how to structure content to maximise engagement and discoverability. Qualities A deep commitment to social justice, human rights, and feminist values. A collaborative, communicative mindset—able to work respectfully across lived experience, time zones, and levels of technical expertise. Sensitivity to trauma-informed storytelling and care in presenting the experiences of justice-affected women. Reliability, with the ability to manage your time independently and meet project deadlines as agreed. Open-mindedness and flexibility—willing to receive feedback, experiment with new ideas, and adapt to the evolving needs of the organisation. You don’t need to be an expert in all areas, but we value curiosity, initiative, and the willingness to grow. If you care deeply about our mission and have a strong foundation in web design, we’d love to hear from you. Your contribution will help shape a platform that amplifies unheard voices, supports campaigns for change, and connects a growing global community to the work and vision of The View.

What will you be doing?

The View Magazine CiC is an award-winning publication and campaigning platform run by and for women with lived experience of the criminal justice system. We amplify marginalised voices and advocate for justice, dignity, and reform. As a Volunteer Web Designer, you will support the development and maintenance of our website to ensure it's accessible, user-friendly, and visually engaging. Your work will help us increase our reach, support advocacy efforts, and connect with a wider audience.
