Overview

Are you interested in using your leadership skills to support a vibrant civil society and help improve the criminal justice system?

What difference will you make?

As Vice-Chair, you will support the Chair and provide leadership to the Board in setting the organisation's strategy. You will engage with members to pursue our goal of building a fairer, more effective criminal justice system that leads to a more equitable society.

What are we looking for?

Essential experience: HR/people and culture, fundraising, strategic communications, corporate or individual donor engagement, information/digital technology, legal, business or project management, policy, public affairs, advocacy, ideally in criminal/social justice or human rights sectors in England and Wales. Frontline service delivery experience in these sectors is also valued.
Desirable: Lived experience of the criminal justice system; membership of CJA or related organisations; work in Wales or outside London/South-East; understanding of membership organisations; leadership experience in criminal or social justice sectors; knowledge of good governance practices.

Skills and attributes: Motivation, integrity, commitment, strategic vision, creativity, collaboration, adaptability, and a strong commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Responsibilities

Support the Chair: Lead the Board in strategy, review risk management, chair meetings, liaise with the Director, and support trustee performance and recruitment.

General trustee duties: Provide strategic direction, safeguard values, ensure legal and financial compliance, monitor risk, understand the organisation, manage conflicts of interest, improve Board performance, represent the organisation externally, and foster external relationships.
