About Us

Friends for Life provides a unique befriending service to lonely, socially isolated elderly residents in Bedford’s care homes. We are seeking a trustee with skills and experience in financial and budget management and accounting.

Impact of Your Role

You will help make a real difference to vulnerable community members by tackling social isolation and strengthening community links. As a trustee, you will contribute to fulfilling our mission and find personal reward and enjoyment in your role.

What We Are Looking For

We seek an individual with broad experience in financial and resource management and accounting, capable of contributing to all aspects of board work. Previous trustee experience is not required; however, you should demonstrate skills such as strategic thinking, policy development, leadership, compliance, and oversight. You should reside within reasonable travelling distance of Bedford for face-to-face meetings and events. Our trustees come from across Bedfordshire and London. An induction program, including reading our trustee guide, familiarising with policies, volunteer welcome days, shadowing befrienders, and ICAEW trustee training (or similar), will be provided.

Responsibilities
  1. Chair the Finance Committee to ensure effective functioning.
  2. Oversee financial management and reporting, working with the volunteer treasurer.
  3. Lead budget and financial planning.
  4. Enhance the integration between fundraising and financial activities.
  5. Commit to a three-year term, dedicating approximately 10-15 hours per month.
