The overall role of a Treasurer is to oversee the organisation’s financial affairs, ensure its financial viability, and maintain proper financial records and procedures.

What are we looking for?

In addition to the trustee qualities, the treasurer should have:

  • Financial qualifications and experience
  • Experience in charity finance, fundraising, and pension schemes
  • Skills to analyze proposals and assess financial implications
  • Willingness to make unpopular recommendations when necessary
  • Availability to advise staff on financial matters
What will you be doing?

Responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing, approving, and presenting budgets, accounts, and financial statements
  • Ensuring resources meet current and future needs
  • Maintaining an appropriate reserves policy
  • Overseeing financial reporting to the board
  • Implementing sound accounting procedures and controls
  • Liaising with staff and volunteers on financial issues
  • Advising on financial aspects of strategic plans
  • Ensuring proper investment policies and monitoring investments
  • Ensuring accounts comply with funders and statutory bodies’ requirements
  • Facilitating external scrutiny if needed
  • Keeping the board informed of financial duties
  • Contributing to fundraising strategies
  • Presenting accounts at the AGM clearly and coherently
  • Sitting on appraisal, recruitment, and disciplinary panels as required
