Role Description

The Donkey Sanctuary is an international animal welfare organisation, offering care and protection to donkeys worldwide. We aim to achieve this by transforming the lives of donkeys in need worldwide through greater understanding, collaboration, support, and promoting lasting, mutually beneficial relationships.

Volunteers are integral to our work and help us reach our goals. We are seeking volunteers to support our Ecology Team at our Sidmouth site, focusing on habitat improvement for donkeys and wildlife. If you are interested in the natural environment and willing to give your time, we would love to hear from you.

How You Can Help

Assist with habitat creation, enhancement, and management tasks such as:

  • Woodland management
  • Grassland restoration
  • Creating wildflower meadows
  • Hedge laying
  • Tree planting
  • Tree nursery care
  • Wildlife-friendly gardening

Support wildlife and habitat monitoring activities, including:

  • Butterfly surveys
  • Botanical surveys
  • Nestbox making

Application Details

We welcome applications from those able to volunteer one or two days a week, typically Wednesdays and Thursdays, between 10:00 and 16:00.

The Donkey Sanctuary is committed to safeguarding and promoting welfare, requiring all volunteers to undergo relevant checks, including DBS where necessary, and adhere to safer recruitment policies.
