Job Description

Location: Community football sessions across Islington
Type: Voluntary (with development support)
Reporting to: Team Head Coach / Session Lead Coach

Role Purpose

To support the delivery of grassroots football in a flexible coaching role. This position is ideal for volunteers exploring coaching, building experience, or working toward FA qualifications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Session Support: Help set up and pack down equipment, support lead coach in delivering warm-ups and basic drills, assist with small-group activities or individual support, encourage players positively and help create a fun, welcoming environment, act as a role model for behaviour, effort, and respect
  • Learning & Development: Observe experienced coaches and ask questions, take part in coach debriefs or planning chats when possible, complete the FA Playmaker course (or equivalent intro course), reflect on sessions and personal development goals
  • Safeguarding & Inclusion: Ensure sessions are safe and inclusive for all players, be aware of basic safeguarding responsibilities and follow club policies, maintain DBS clearance (arranged by club if needed)
Essential Requirements
  • Interest in football and/or youth/community development
  • Enthusiastic and positive attitude
  • Willingness to learn and contribute consistently
  • Enhanced DBS check
Desirable Attributes
  • Experience working with young people, players, or in a team setting
  • Commitment to inclusive football and player enjoyment
  • Keen to progress toward formal coaching qualifications (FA Playmaker, Level 1)
Time Commitment

1 session per week (training or matchday, flexible)
Optional: Attend club CPD, or events
Minimum suggested commitment: 1 term / 3-4 months
