Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Service Technician/Mechanic Apprentice – Canterbury Van Centre

Location: Canterbury

Apprenticeship - Level 3 • Salary: £302 a week • Closing date: 6th November 2025

Programme and training details will be delivered by Inspiro Learning, with a mix of virtual classroom remote learning and face-to-face weekly blocks at our state-of-the-art training centre. In the workplace, a dedicated mentor will support ongoing learning as you apply skills gained through remote sessions and at the Volkswagen Group National Learning Centre. This is a fully rounded training experience where you will gain apprenticeship qualifications and brand certifications.

The apprentice will join the Service department and help deliver right-first-time fixes and excellent customer service. Duties will include the following responsibilities:

  • Use of diagnostic equipment to identify vehicle faults.
  • Testing of parts and systems to ensure correct functioning.
  • Following checklists to ensure all critical parts of vehicles are examined.
  • Carrying out bumper-to-bumper overview, service, and inspection.
  • Maintenance of electronic systems including on-board entertainment systems.
  • Repair and maintenance of vehicle parts including clutches, gearboxes, tyres, brakes and suspension.
  • Completion of legible and accurate paperwork for customers and centre records.
  • Maintenance of a clean and tidy work environment.

You will have the opportunity to work with a wide range of products including traditional, hybrid and electric engines, gaining varied technical training across heritage vehicles and modern technology.

What you will learn and training:

  • Three-year Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard in Motor Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician (Light Vehicle).
  • Certificate in Automotive Refrigerant Handling.
  • Brand-specific certifications.
  • Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales frameworks with additional Level 2/Level 3 diplomas and brand certifications as applicable.

Minimum Entry Requirements

GCSE grades 9–4 (A–C) in English, Maths and Science. In Scotland, Scottish National 5 Grades A–C or above in English, Maths and either a Science or Technical subject. “Equivalent” grades include BTEC diplomas/certs, OCR Nationals, Key Skills Level 2, NVQs, Essential Skills (Wales), Functional Skills Level 2, Core Skills (Scotland). Predicted grades can be considered with conditional offers possible.
