A community-focused local authority in Kensington & Chelsea seeks a Void Maintenance Officer to ensure void properties are safe and ready for new tenants. Key responsibilities include lock changes, utility checks, and supporting the Voids & Lettings Team. Proven experience in social housing maintenance is essential. The role offers £25 per hour on an ongoing temporary basis.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Maintenance Officer, Handy Person, or Voids Operative within social housing.
  • Good knowledge of repairs and maintenance processes.
  • Understanding of utility meters (smart and pre-payment).
  • Strong communication and IT skills.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel locally.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out lock changes, utility meter checks, and minor repairs.
  • Record and log gas and electricity meter readings.
  • Conduct tenancy-ready checks after void works are completed.
  • Ensure all voids are managed safely and efficiently.
  • Attend sites to monitor standards and contractor performance.
  • Complete accurate records and reports using internal systems.
  • Support the Voids & Lettings Team in achieving customer satisfaction.

Are you an experienced Void Maintenance Officer looking to join a well-established local authority and play a key role in preparing homes for new tenants?

We're working with a leading council housing team seeking a proactive individual to help ensure void properties are safe, secure, and ready to let - providing vital support across maintenance, inspections, and property readiness.

The Role
  • Carry out lock changes, utility meter checks, and minor repairs on void properties.

  • Record and log gas and electricity meter readings and resolve any meter-related queries.

  • Conduct tenancy-ready checks once void works are completed.

  • Ensure all voids are managed safely, efficiently, and within performance targets.

  • Attend sites to monitor standards, health & safety, and contractor performance.

  • Complete accurate records and reports using internal systems.

  • Support the wider Voids & Lettings Team to achieve customer satisfaction and service quality.
