Vocational Specialist Teacher - Alternative Provision

Position: Vocational Specialist Teacher
Location: Manchester
Start Date: ASAP
Hours: 8.30am - 3.00pm, Monday to Friday, Term Time Only
Pay Rate: £174.71-£270 per day

Cover People are currently recruiting for a Vocational Specialist Teacher to join an Alternative Provision setting in Manchester. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced tradesperson, vocational tutor or teacher who has a genuine passion for working with young people and can use practical, hands-on learning to engage students who may struggle within a traditional classroom environment.

The school is open to candidates from a wide range of vocational backgrounds. Your specialism could be in woodwork, carpentry, mechanics, construction, bricklaying, plumbing, engineering, maintenance, joinery or another practical trade. The key requirement is that you have strong practical knowledge alongside the confidence, resilience and behaviour management skills required to work effectively with students who can present with challenging and dysregulated behaviour.

This role will involve planning and delivering engaging, practical sessions that give students the opportunity to develop new skills, build confidence and experience success in a hands-on environment. You will work with young people who may have experienced difficulties within mainstream education, so the ability to build positive relationships, maintain clear boundaries and remain calm and consistent when behaviour escalates is essential.

The successful candidate will be someone who can command a classroom or workshop through positive relationships rather than simply relying on authority, while maintaining high expectations around behaviour, safety and engagement.
