We are looking for a proactive and hands-on Vocational Instructor (Behaviour Lead & Vocational Teacher) to join a dedicated special school in Southend-on-Sea. This full-time contract position is available for an immediate start and is perfect for someone passionate about preparing students with additional needs for real-world success through practical learning and positive behaviour support.

This role blends vocational instruction with behaviour leadership, supporting students with social, emotional, and behavioural challenges. You’ll deliver engaging, work-related learning experiences while leading on behaviour strategies that foster emotional regulation, confidence, and growth. Whether you have a background in teaching, youth work, or industry-based training, if you can connect with young people and bring practical lessons to life, this could be your ideal role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver vocational education lessons tailored to students’ needs and interests.
  • Support behaviour management across the school, modelling and embedding positive behaviour strategies.
  • Engage students in hands-on learning that builds confidence, teamwork, and employability skills.
  • Foster a calm, structured classroom environment built on mutual respect.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching assistants and other staff to support student outcomes.
  • Track student progress and contribute to EHCP reviews and development plans.
  • Lead behaviour interventions and support colleagues in implementing strategies.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Experience delivering vocational training or working in a relevant trade/industry (desirable).
  • Prior experience working with young people with SEND or SEMH needs is desirable but not essential.
  • A practical, creative approach to teaching and student engagement.
  • Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to lead by example.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A commitment to inclusive education and safeguarding children and young people.
  • Adaptability, patience, and a passion for helping students succeed in real-world pathways.
