Job description

Do you believe in adding value to every single student? Do you want to work in a school where every student is challenged to achieve their personal best? Do our three core values of inclusive, individual, and inspirational resonate with you?

If this sounds like you and you enjoy sweet treats in the staff room, the idea of dogs around the site, and a calendar of staff socials, then please read on.

Music plays an important part in the life of Shiplake College. We are seeking an inspirational violin teacher who can deliver exciting and motivating lessons to pupils on an individual and group basis. Your lessons will include individual repertoire, sight-reading, aural, theory, and exploration of different styles of violin and techniques.

This role would suit a violin teacher eager to share their love of violin and music in a collaborative and innovative way. Students should leave your lessons inspired, enthused, and wanting more. You will have high expectations of pupils and the drive to help them reach their potential.

Applicants must be able to read music and accompany pupils. You must demonstrate a commitment to the highest standards of teaching and learning.

Our school environment fuels ambition and aspiration; we strive to ignite a spark, stir passion, unlock potential, and encourage each student to achieve their personal best.

Shiplake College is an independent boarding and day school for around 540 pupils aged 11 to 18. Since 1998, we have had a co-educational Sixth Form, and from September 2023, girls have been welcomed into Year 7 as the College became fully co-educational. Situated on 63 acres of beautiful countryside near Henley-on-Thames, we offer an outstanding education based on small class sizes, excellent facilities, and dedicated staff.

We offer a competitive salary, excellent free lunches, a contributory pension scheme, access to our gym and sporting facilities, and an excellent working environment.

Early applications are encouraged, as the College reserves the right to appoint at any stage during the application process.

Closing date: Monday 30 June 2025

Interviews will be held as soon as possible.

Applicants can obtain a candidate pack and application form from www.shiplake.org.uk/vacancies.

We are a day and boarding school for ages 11-18, fully co-educational from 2023.

Affiliations include HMC, The Society of Heads, and BSA.

Shiplake College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All staff and volunteers are expected to share this commitment. Applicants will undergo child protection screening, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). We are dedicated to equality of opportunity and welcome applications from individuals regardless of age, disability, sex, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, marriage, or civil partnerships.
