Responsible for: Delivering classroom teaching and marking student work.

Overall purpose

The role of Associate Lecturer in the School involves delivering content across modules or within a specific subject area. The position is hybrid (face-to-face or online), with responsibility for engaging students, helping them achieve learning outcomes, and ensuring a high-quality student experience.

Specific duties and responsibilities

Teaching and Learning

• Teach scheduled sessions weekly, including lectures, seminars, and tutorials.
• Maintain attendance records and collaborate with the attendance team to ensure accuracy.
• Deliver sessions aligned with programme and module specifications.
• Utilize digital platforms such as VLEs and MS Teams effectively.
• Ensure student engagement during sessions.
• Adjust teaching materials to meet learners' needs.
• Update class notes and materials regularly on the VLE.
• Suggest improvements for the student academic experience through appropriate channels.

Assessment and Marking

• Set and support timely submission of assessments.
• Support assessment production and ensure approval processes are followed.
• Participate in moderation and standardization meetings.
• Provide formative feedback to students.
• Mark assessments according to guidelines and provide timely, constructive feedback.
• Identify and escalate cases of academic misconduct.

Student Support

• Address issues of engagement or performance, referring students to support services as needed.
• Handle pastoral concerns and signpost students accordingly.
• Monitor progress on Learning Support Plans in collaboration with specialist services.

Quality Assurance

• Provide Module Completion Reports post-module.
• Contribute to programme evaluations and continuous improvement efforts.
• Participate in Programme Committee meetings and quality assurance processes.
• Reflect on student feedback to identify areas for improvement and good practice.
• Assist in programme accreditation and quality control activities.
• Attend relevant meetings and ensure timely completion of marking and feedback.
• Engage in scholarship and training activities to enhance teaching and learning.
