Job summary

The Avenue School is seeking an exceptional Headteacher to lead our specialist school into its next chapter, shaping an ambitious vision for pupils with SEND. You will inspire a dedicated team, work with families and partners, and drive excellence in teaching and safeguarding.

The successful candidate will have substantial senior leadership experience in SEND, QTS and NPQH or equivalent, and a commitment to inclusion, staff wellbeing and continuous improvement across the school.

Qualifications

• Substantial senior leadership experience within a SEND setting.
• Proven track record of raising achievement and improving outcomes for pupils with additional needs.
• Ability to provide strategic and creative leadership with a strong school vision for learning.
• Ability to build relationships and communicate with governors, staff, pupils, parents and professionals.
• Inspirational leader committed to staff development and wellbeing.
• Thorough understanding of safeguarding, SEND legislation and school improvement.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and direction for the school.
• Build a culture of high expectations and continuous improvement.
• Ensure outstanding safeguarding, pastoral care and pupil welfare.
• Drive excellence in teaching, learning and curriculum development.
• Lead and develop a talented and dedicated staff team.
• Collaborate with trustees, governors, parents, local authorities and external agencies.
• Ensure effective financial management and value for money.
• Act as the school's Accounting Officer, ensuring compliance with statutory, financial and regulatory requirements.
• Champion inclusion and ensure every pupil receives personalized support.
