A leading climate tech start-up in London seeks engineers passionate about AI and sustainability. You'll develop and optimize imaging hardware solutions that integrate advanced machine learning for textile waste sorting. About Us
At Zori Tex, we’re a climate tech start-up on a mission to drive circularity in the fashion and
textile industry. We are pioneering AI-powered textile waste sorting, combining machine
vision and deep learning to optimise the availability of textiles for closed-loop recycling. We
have an established machine learning pipeline for textile and fibre detection and are
currently refining our system ready for piloting and deployment.
This role is a unique opportunity for engineers who are passionate about AI, sustainability,
and solving complex problems, with experience in deep tech integration. We are seeking
individuals who are excited about working in an early-stage startup environment, where
resilience and problem solving are key and where challenges are seen as opportunities to
learn. The role has significant potential for growth.
Key Responsibilities:
● Develop and optimise imaging hardware system, including illumination, hyperspectral
near-infrared and RGB cameras.
● Design and prototype cost-effective and scalable imaging hardware solutions.
● Integrate machine learning models with imaging hardware and embedded processing
units.
● Work on automation aspects of the textile sorting system.
● Conduct real world testing and refine hardware/software integration.
● Ensure robust communication between IoT-enabled sorting platforms and data
processing systems.
● Dataset extension including acquisition, training and re-training to optimise
configuration and machine learning performance.
● Collaborate with the Machine Learning Engineer and wider team to ensure seamless
system integration and alignment with customer requirements.
● Collaboration with external partners and experts to validate and optimise
performance and robustness.
● Develop, maintain and implement strict health and safety procedures.
● Manage and support development of technical interns and/or growing team.
● Ambition to build a fast scaling product and develop and drive strategy in your area.
Key Skills & Experience
Essential:
● Strong background in mechanical, electrical or electronic engineering or physics with
experience in imaging hardware and embedded systems.
● At least 2-3 years of relevant, practical hands-on industry experience gained through
professional employment or advanced research during postgraduate studies (PhD
level).
● Proficiency in Python and relevant hardware related programming languages (C/C++
desirable).
● Experience designing and building prototypes for industrial or real-world applications.
● Familiarity with IoT and cloud connected devices is a plus.
● Interest in circular economy, recycling, and sustainability.
● Problem solving mindset with resilience and adaptability to thrive in a fast paced
startup environment.
● Commitment to the long term vision and ambition to build a fast scaling product,
while developing and driving strategy in your area.
● Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively in a team.
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
Desirable:
● Master’s or PhD in a relevant field.
● Experience with computer vision and machine learning models would be beneficial.
● Experience with JavaScript and MySQL is a plus.
