Job summary

Oldham Council is seeking a Teaching Assistant for Children and Young People with a Vision Impairment to support inclusion and raise outcomes across schools and settings.

You will work under the guidance of Qualified Teachers of Children and Young People with a Vision Impairment, helping prepare accessible curriculum materials and implement personalised work programmes. A car is required to travel between settings in the borough.

Qualifications

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships with CYP, staff and families.
• Sound knowledge and direct experience of working with CYP with a vision impairment.
• A good standard of literacy with the ability to contribute to reports.
• Grade 1 or Grade 2 braille qualification or willingness to attain.
• The use of a car is necessary to work in settings throughout the borough.

Responsibilities

• Support the inclusion of children and young people with a vision impairment.
• Work under supervision of Qualified Teachers within an agreed system of supervision.
• Provide effective support and advice, prepare accessible curriculum materials and implement personalised work programmes.
• Collaborate with service staff, school staff, families and other professionals.
