The team…

You will be joining our team at an exciting time! Having just been part of the Children’s Services 2024 inspection where we achieved a GOOD rating, we are driven, committed, and passionate about achieving the very best outcomes for children and young people. Our Virtual School comprises a Virtual School Head, a deputy head, 4 casework leads, and 4 caseworkers. We are an enthusiastic and vibrant team who truly hold the child at the centre of all we do.

About the role…

The Virtual School is responsible for the educational achievement, engagement, and progress of all Children in Care across Gateshead. We also support children with a social worker, previously looked after, adopted, or in kinship arrangements. The role involves managing a caseload of children and young people, supporting them to achieve their best in education and learning.

Key responsibilities include managing a caseload of Children in Care with SEND, working alongside social workers and teachers to ensure their inclusion in education. You will be the first point of contact for carers, social care, and school staff on issues such as school admissions, transitions, attendance, emotional health, exclusions, and special educational needs. Duties include monitoring and promoting attainment and progress, managing Pupil Premium Plus funding, and ensuring the quality of Personal Education Plans to meet each child's needs.

You will establish and maintain effective relationships with professionals from other services and agencies, maintain accurate case records, and support enrichment opportunities for children in care and previously cared for children.
